KPK TO SUPERVISE MANAGEMENT OF FOUNDATIONS

Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will supervise the management of some foundations in ministries and government agencies in a bid to prevent the state from incurring possible losses.

KPK Vice Chairman for Prevention Haryono, after reporting the KPK performance in 2008 here on Tuesday, said that he had sent 99 notifications to a number of ministries and government agencies having a foundation.
However, KPK had just received replies from 50 agencies. Of the 50 ministries and agencies, 14 have a foundation, Haryono said.
In fact, according to him, the Justice and Human Rights Ministry said that at least 30 ministries and agencies had a foundation.
Haryono stressed that the supervision of the foundations was aimed at preventing the misaapropriation of the Indonesian Banking Development Foundation's funds amounting to Rp100 billion.
The fund was used by Bank Indonesia as central bank to settle the Indonesian Bank Liquidity Fund (BLBI) and for the revision of the law on Bank Indonesia at the House of Representatives by former BI officials.
"We will have to follow it up, so that we can learn whether the foundations had used the state assets," Haryono said.
Furthermore he said that the supervision was also aimed to prevent the management of the foundations which still use state facilities, while the status of the foundations are privately owned.
