MARTY PASSES ON PRESIDENT'S LETTER TO UN SECRETARY GENERAL

Jakarta, Dec 30 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York Marty M Natalegawa has passed on a letter from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and UNSC President Neven Jurica.

An official release received by Antara in Jakarta on Tuesday from the Indonesian permanent representative, said the president's letter for Ban Ki-moon was delivered through cabinet leader Viyay Nambiar before Marty's meeting with Ban Ki-moon.
"On the occasion, we underscore again Indonesia's deep concern over the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip and also Indonesian stance condemning the violence committed by Israel which had caused the death of over 375 civilians and the injury to over 1500 Palestinians," Marty said.
Indonesia, he added, also said that if Israel still ignored the UN Security Council's resolution, it was time to take further steps to make Israel obey it.
In addition, Indonesia will continue coordination with Lybia as a non permanent member of the UNSC representing the Arab World as a follow up to direct the UNSC attention to the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip.
In the meantime, on December 27-28 New York time, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Indonesia on that occasion called on the UN Security Council not to keep quiet, but urge Israel to immediately stop its military action.
The UN Security Council had actually agreed to the security council's decision like issuing a press release relating to the situation in the Gaza Strip calling on all conflicting parties to stop their violence and military action.
