KISPA CALLS FOR SOLIDARITY DAY FOR GAZA ON FRIDAY
Jakarta, Dec. 31 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Committee for Palestinian Solidarity (KISPA) called on the world community to observe next Friday, January 2, 2009, as a Solidarity Day for Gaza residents, KISPA Secretary General Ferry Nur said here on Wednesday.
KISPA called on all mosque managers to donate all funds collected during Islam's Friday mass prayers on January 2, to the Palestinian people, he said.
He also urged all Muslim preachers during the Friday prayers to pray for the Palestinians and to bring up the issue of the Israeli attacks which killed around 375 Palestinians and injured about 1,700 others as a theme of their Friday sermons.
KISPA also urged the Indonesian government to help bring intellectual actors behind the attacks in Gaza to the International Court.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Muslim Scholars Council (MUI) Prof Dr Umar Shihab here on Tuesday called on Muslim mass organizations to donate funds for Palestine, and not to send volunteers to fight in Palestine.
He said MUI condemned the Israeli aggression and regarded the attacks as barbaric and a gross human rights violation.
MUI urged the United Nations (UN) to take a stern action against Israel and bring the state's leaders to the International Court.
In Medan, Abdul Hakim Siagian, a legislator of the North Sumatra Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) on Tuesday said that Israel should be isolated from international relations, following the Jewish country's brutality against Palestinians.
He regretted the US supports to Israel so far and hoped that US President-elect Barack Obama could be proactive in creating a world peace including in Palestine during his administration starting January 2009.
Siagian urged the Indonesian government to help bring the Israeli Prime Minister to the International Court for the humanitarian crime that the Zionist state has committed.
