Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior makes statement

Riyadh, December 31, SPA -- A fugitive suspect and a security patrol
exchanged fire in Tabuk Region early this evening, leading to the
martyrdom of a security man and the injury of another and the killing
of the suspect, a Security Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior
said.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, the spokesman said the
patrol, on a routine duty, detected a suspect car, chased it and
eventually stopped it in a desert area along Tabuk- Al-Madinah
highway in Al-Jahra'a Province, an affiliate of Tabuk Region.

As the security men were closing near the car to verify the driver's
identity, he suddenly fired at them from a pistol he was hiding in
his clothes, killing one and injuring another. The security men
immediately returned fatal fire at him.

The injured was rushed to hospital for necessary medical care. The
authorities opened investigation into the incident.
