PKS MEMBERS RALLY TO SHOW SOLIDARITY FOR PALESTINIANS
Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan, Jan 1 (ANTARA) - Members of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS)'s extended family here Thursday took to the streets to show solidarity for Palestinians and condemn Israel's recent air strikes on Palestine.
The Israeli bombardment that killed hundreds of innocent Palestinians is the form of human right violations, they said at the rally.
In its statement, the executive board of the party's Banjarmasin municipal chapter called on the Indonesian government to take prompt action through political channels in the United Nations as part of efforts to put a halt to Israel's attacks on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.
In addition, the government should also use other diplomatic channels, such as the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the statement said.
The PKS chapter urged the government to ensure that relief aid from the Indonesian people would soon reach the Palestinians who have fallen victim to the Israeli bombardment.
It also urged the House of Representatives (DPR) to immediately lobby other members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to scrap the Israeli membership from the union because of their crimes against the Palestinian people and parliament.
The PKS extended family also urged leaders of Arab countries and the Islamic world to make every effort to put an end to the Israeli attacks, send aid to Gaza, and sever diplomatic and business ties with Israel.
