TMII ATTRACTS 400,000 VISITORS ON NEW YEAR'S EVE
Jakarta, Jan 1 (ANTARA) - The Indonesia in Miniature Park (TMII) achieved its target to attract 400,000 visitors on New Year's Eve Wednesday night, TMII Spokesman J. Purnawijaya Alibasa, said on Thursday.
He said that the number of visitors reached its peak just before the turn of the year at midnight. "The number of visitors this year was exceptional compared with a year earlier," he said.
"There are many factors that supported TMII to achieve its target, among others, good weather," he said.
During New Year's Eve in 2007, a drizzle followed by heavy rain fell in the TMII area. But this year, the weather was pretty bright, he said.
TMII during New Year's eve on Wednesday night presented a 'People's Festivity' program to welcome 2009. The festivity had a series of activities which peaked with a regional arts parade, fire works and music performances, among others by the Radja band group and popular 'dangdut' singer Elvi Sukaesih.
"The activities that attracted most visitors included shadow plays, puppet shows and torch and fire-crackers festivities," Alibasa said.
The miniature park is composed of stands representing all provinces in Indonesia. Almost all stands presented their own traditional arts performances.
West Java, for example, performed a 'jaipongan' dance, Central Java showed an epic play and East Java presented a shadow play, he added.
