PALEMBANG STUDENTS WISH TO GO TO PALESTINE

Palembang, South Sumatra, Jan. 1 (ANTARA) - A number of university students, including those from the state University of Sriwijaya (Unsri), have expressed their wish to go to Palestine to fight the Israeli military.
"We are ready to go and become volunteers to fight Israel and help the Palestinian people even if we have to quit school," a member of the United Action of Palembang Darussalam People (KUPAS), said here on Thursday.
Merely condemning the Israeli brutality was not enough, therefore he was ready to fight against Israel, according to him.
He said South Sumatra's university students in cooperation with mass organizations would in the near future open a registration post for students wishing to go to Palestine.
A big rally in solidarity of Palestinian people would be held in South Sumatra on Friday (Jan. 2), he said, adding that the students would also call for a boycott of US and Israeli products.
Similar rallies are also expected to be organized in Jakarta and other cities in Indonesia on Friday.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (Dec. 31), anti-Israel demonstrations took place in a number of cities in Indonesia, such as in Sukabumi and Bandung (West Java), Palu (Central Sulawesi), Ambon (Maluku), Surabaya and Jombang (East Java), Jakarta, Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara), Kudus and Solo (Central Java), Makassar (South Sulawesi), as well as in Bengkulu and Lampung (southern Sumatra Island).
Rizal Adityanto, who coordinated a rally of about 100 people grouped in HAMMAS (Association of Community and University Students Caring for Palestine), in Sukabumi, said that Israel had committed gross humanitarian crime by killing Palestinian civilians.
In Palu, protesting university students burned Israeli flags and sealed an American franchise restaurant.
In Surabaya, some 600 members of Hidayatullah Surabaya in their protest brought along banners with texts reading: "Stop Holocaust", "Israel, Gross Human Rights Violater", and "Collect Funds for Palestine".
Members of the Muslim Forum of Anti Zionist (FUIAZ) in Jombang during their rally pelted Israeli flags with sandals and shoes.
In Jakarta, around 10,000 members of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) led by PKS Chairman Tifatul Sembiring staged a rally in front of the US Embassy, bringing banners with texts which read 'We are Palestinian Volunteers', 'Go to Hell Israel', and 'Save Palestine'.
