FLASH FLOOD HITS DONGGALA, C. SULAWESI
Palu, Indonesia, Jan 1 (ANTARA) - A flash flood was reported to have inundated tens of houses in Nupabomba, Tanantovea subdistrict, Donggala district, due to heavy rain which had been falling since early Thursday morning.
The rains caused the Nupabomba river to overflow and inundated the streets and agricultural areas in the village.
Mrs Elvi (36), a local resident, said the overflowing water of the river also submerged houses of local residents in a height of two meters.
Because of this flood, trans-Sulawesi highways in a distance of 30 kilometers were covered by the sand of landslide from the hills on account of intermittent rain.
This condition was also exacerbated by the falls of big trees and big stones rolling down from the hills. At least there were tens of landslide points in Kebun Kopi area in the village.
The number of casualties was still unknown including that of evacuees.
