SOME 34,886 RI WORKERS DEPORTED BY M'SIA IN 2008

Tanjungpinang, Indonesia, Jan 1 (ANTARA) - Malaysia was recorded to have deported 34,886 illegal Indonesian migrant workers from Pasir Gudang port of that country to Sri Bintan Pura port of Tanjungpinang, the capital of Riau islands, in 2008.

Head of the Tanjungpinang Immigration office Ispaisah here on Thursday said those problematic deportees consisted of 25,064 men, 9,344 women and 478 children.

"Today, Malaysia also repatriated 150 problematic workers, most of whom consist of 113 men, 36 women and one baby," he said.

Based on his record on the number of illegals evicted from Malaysia, at least 2,851 were deported in January followed by 2,402 in February, 1,929 in March, 3,262 in April, 3,211 in May, 2,967 in June, 2,829 in July, 3,903 in August, 3,948 in September, 2,007 in October, 2,634 in November and 2,943 illegal workers in December 2008.

Those illegal Indonesian migrant workers were dropped through debarkation gate of Tanjungpinang city, their shipment of which was conducted three times a week.

"The illegals are captured by Malaysian police personnel for having no documents as foreign workers in Malaysia," he said.

Most of them were captured for having use tourist visa to work in Malaysia, while the others were found to have overstayed after completing their working contracts in that neighboring country.

The illegals had to serve jail sentence in Malaysia for a few months before being deported to Indonesia, but some were reportedly canned before being jailed.

"They were put into some jails in Malaysia," Ispaisah said.

Before sending those problematic workers to respective home town, they were accommodated in a certain shelter in Transito Street, Bintan district.

It was reported that there were many Indonesian illegals arrested in Malaysia for having no complete documents as foreign workers," he said.

Ispaisah called on the community wishing to work in Malaysia in particular and other countries in general not to deal with illegal manpower placement agency, as it would put their safety in danger.
