CHRISTIANS IN SURABAYA ALSO CONDEMN ISRAELI VIOLENCE
Surabaya, Indonesia, Jan 1 (ANTARA) - Christians in Surabaya, East Java's provincial capital, on Thursday staged a street rally condemming Israel's continued air strikes on Palestian targets in the Gaza Strip and offering prayers for peace in the Middle Eastern country.
Held in the Tambak Asri area, the rally was participated in by members of the Christian Believers Association (PWK), the Joint Love Services (Kensa) and the Krembang subdistrict branch of the Prosperous Peace Party (PDS).
They carried banners picturing Palestinians who had fallen victim to the Israeli attacks, and conveying the messages "Free Palestine", "Save Palestines" and "Lord , Please Restore Peace in 2009."
"This action reflects the support of Christians for Palestine and their hope that peace will prevail in Palestine. We hope there will be no conflict or war in 2009," said Daniel Lukas, a spokesman and coordinator of the solidarity action.
In addition, he also hoped that the leaders of Christians in Indonesia will attempt to work for peace in Palestine.
As a symbol of peace, they released around 100 baloons to the air with a banner saying "Save Palestine." The baloon is the hope of the Christians who loved peace.
