UAE-UK Joint Economic Committee discuss boosting cooperation relations

LONDON, 26th October, 2015 (WAM) -- The UAE-UK Joint Economic Committee has highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation in various fields as well as strengthening efforts to promote trade volume to GBP25 billion by 2020. The fourth meeting of the Joint Economic Committee was held yesterday in London, under the chairmanship of Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, and Francis Maude, UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment. The meeting was attended by Abdul Rahman Ghanem Abdul Rahman Al Mutaiwee, UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, First Secretary at the UAE Embassy in the UK, Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, Under-Secretary for Economic Affairs, and a number of senior officials from both sides. The two sides commended the previous achievements made by the Joint Economic Committee, notably increasing trade exchange between the two countries to GBP12 billion by the end of 2014. Al Mansouri hailed the distinguished relations linking the two countries, attributing this to the support of both countries’ leadership and their directives to boost them in various fields. He called on the British side to promote cooperation in the field of innovation through the development of a joint framework and the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation in this field. Mr Maude commended the deep relations between the two countries in various fields, adding that it is a relationship based on mutual respect, appreciation, excellent partnership and cooperation, which guarantee the interests of both countries and peoples.
