SOME 1,500 EXPERTS TO ATTEND INT'L MARITIME SYMPOSIUM IN MANADO

Manado, Jan 2 (ANTARA) - Some 1,500 maritime experts from around the world will attend a maritime symposium during the World Ocean Conference (WOC) and Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) Summit on May 11-15 in Manado, a spokesperson for the events' organizers said.
About 500 papers on maritime topics had been submitted to the organizing committee for discussion at the symposium, the regional organizing comittee's secretary, Desy Mantiri, said.
The symposium would be divided into 33 sessions where the maritime experts could discuss a wide range of maritime issues.
The symposium would be a valuable opportunity for local maritime academics to interact with their peers from many other countries, Mantiri said.
About the WOC proper, Mantiri said the conference would bring together a total of 3,000 people directly or indirectly involved in matters related to the oceans, including scientists and representtives of non-governmental organizations from 121 countries.
