Yemen's Human Rights Minister decries al-Houthi and Saleh militias' crimes against civilians

RIYADH, 5th November, 2015 (WAM) -- Yemen's Minister of Human Rights, Izz Al-Din Al-Asbahi, and Matthew Tueller, the U.S. ambassador to Yemen, have discussed the status of human rights in Yemen and the suffering witnessed by the civilians in the various governorates where al-Houthi and Saleh militia unleashed systematic criminal acts. The thousands of wounded innocent civilians, including children and women, as well as the massive destruction of infrastructure and of people's homes is proof of such large scale human rights violations. Yemen News Agency quoted Al-Asbahi as saying, "Al-Houthi militias are committing crimes against the unarmed civilians in various governorates without discrimination and in a hysterical manner which amounts a flagrant violation of international human rights." He added that these militias are committing the most heinous crimes against the population of the city of Taez, imposing a blockade and preventing the arrival of relief aid, medicines, food and water in a manner inconsistent with the international laws. For his part, the U.S. ambassador confirmed his country's support to the legitimate government in Yemen and the positive steps taken to achieve peace, based on the United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2216 as well as the Gulf initiative and outcome of the national dialogue.
