Jakarta, Jan. 4 (ANTARA) - Thousands of Muslims grouped in Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) staged an anti-Israel rally at Monas (National Monument) and Hotel Indonesia (HI) Circle areas, central Jakarta, on Sunday.

The protesters condemned the Israeli military aggression which has killed more than 400 Palestinians, including children and women, and injured over 1,600 others.
The HTI protesters brought banners with texts which among other thing read "Save Palestine". They also brought pictures of Palestinian women and children killed in the Israeli military air strikes.
The Jakarta police completely closed the street toward the US embassy, which is near Monas, during the rally.
Similar anti-Israeli rallies were also held in Indonesian several cities, including in Garut and Bandung (West Java), Surabaya and Bojonegoro (East Java), Purwokerto, Solo and Kendal (Central Java), Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan), and Palembang (South Sumatra), on Sunday.
Since the Israeli military attacks in Palestine on Dec. 27, 2008, anti-Israel rallies have hit streets in various Indonesian cities almost everyday.
The Indonesian government has sent a medical team to Jordan and Egypt to help Palestinians, and provided 2 tons of medicines worth Rp300 million as well as a cash amounting to Rp2 billion.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed his administration's commitment to providing humanitarian aid amounting to one billion US dollars, and medicines, for Palestinians.
