AMIEN RAIS PROPOSES COALITION AMONG MEDIUM-SIZED PARTIES
Banyumas, Jan 4 (ANTARA) - Former National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Amien Rais said here Saturday medium-sized political parties should form a "safety axis" in the face of the general elections later this year.
"I propose the formation of a coalition of medium-sized political parties called 'Nation's Safety Axis'," he said.
Medium-sized political parties needed to unite for the sake of Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) because they had the ability to produce a new leader, he said.
"Medium-sized parties should not lease themselves out (to bigger parties)," he said, adding Indonesia needed an alternative leader.
Asked about his readiness to run for president, he said he was "if the people want me to be."
