RESPONDENTS` SATISFACTION WITH YUDHOYONO`S GOVT INCREASING: SURVEY
Jakarta, Jan 4 (ANTARA) - A survey institute has found that voters' support to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as a presidential candidate in next year's general elections depended on his government's performance.
"The current government's performance will be a decisive factor for voters to decide whether or not they will vote for the incumbent President in the coming presidential election," Executive Director of the Indonesia Survey Institute (LSI) Saiful Mujani said here on Sunday.
He said the success of Yudhoyono and his main supporting party, the Democrat Party, in the coming presidential elections would depend on how far is the people satisfied with the current government's performance.
"If the satisfaction with the performance of Yudhoyono's government increases, the voters' support will also increase, and the support will decline is the performance declines," he said during an expose of the results of the LSI's survey.
The survey which, conducted by LSI in the December 10-22, 2008 period, indicated that the voters' satisfaction with Yudhoyono's performance increased in the June-December 2008 period.
The increase was followed by the increase in the voters' support to the re-election of President Yudhoyono in the 2009 presidential election, he said.
In June 2008, the satisfaction rate of the respondents' support towards Yudhoyono's performance reached 45 percent. It increased to 56 percent in September, 63 percent in October and increased further to 69 in December 2008.
In the meantime, the respondents' support to Yudhoyono was 25 percent in June. It rose to 32 percent in September, 38 percent in October 43 percent in December, 2008, he said.
Saiful Mujani said that the respondents' increased support and satisfactory levels were caused by the achievements made by the Yudhoyono government.
Some 46 percent of the respondents said law enforcement was good and 57 percent others said that Yudhoyono's government was able to maintain national security.
In the economic fied however, the government's performance in handling poverty and unemployment as a whole was bad but in the last three months the image had been improving, he said.
