Yemeni-Saudi team conducts survey on desert locusts

SANA'A, Jan. 04 (Saba) - Yemen and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are
carrying out a joint survey for desert locust on the border areas
near coastline of Red Sea.

In his statement to Saba, Abduh Fara al-Ramih, Director of
Monitoring and Combating Desert Locust Center said that a field team
from the two countries was implementing the survey, which aims at
discovering places of reproduction of the locust in the border line.

Al-Ramih said that the initial results of the survey showed that
there were no worried places for reproduction of the locust in Yemen.

He expected reproduction of locust in internal desert regions that
witnessed raining last November.

It is annual survey done by the two sides, he said, it is the 6th
survey and lasts until 17th January.

He pointed out to the reports of Food and Agricultural Organization
(FAO) that affirmed inexistence of locust waves in African horn
until now.
