JAKARTA STOCKS OPEN HIGHER ON WALL STREET'S GAIN
Jakarta, Dec. 30 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) opened 1.63 percent higher on Monday morning, the first trading session in 2009.
The IHSG in the first 15 minutes of trading was up 22.040 points or 1.63 percent at 1,377.45, and the LQ45 index strengthened 6.039 points to 276.27.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officially opened stock trading in the first session of 2009, encouraging investors to buy shares after a long year-end holiday.
Stock movements were dominated by 58 shares that advanced, only four which plunged, and 21 shares that remained static.
Among shares which gained in the BEI were BUMI (Bumi Resources) shares that were up Rp10 to Rp920, TRAM (Trada Maritime) which advanced Rp34 to Rp159, PGAS (State Gas Company) which went up Rp50 to Rp1,910, PTBA (Bukit Asam coal mining company), that surged Rp400 to Rp7,300, ANTM (Aneka Tambang mining company) which rose Rp60 to Rp1,150 and PT INCO (International Nickel Indonesia), which increased Rp240 to Rp2,170.
PT Danareksa Sekuritas in its daily research analysis said the current conducive condition and positive sentiments in the regional bourses, including the US bourse gain, also affected the BEI index.
The 225-issue Nikkei average finished the half-day session at
9,043.12, up 183.56 points, or 2.1 percent. The US bourse with Dow Jones Index strengthened 258.30 points or 2.94 percent to 9,034.69, in the market's close last Friday.
The benchmark South Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 20.78 points to 1,178.18 on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the rupiah strengthened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market on Monday morning, as some market players were still not active in the money market.
The rupiah was trading at RP10,900/RP11,000 per US dollar, up 50 points from Rp10,950/Rp11,000 in the market's close last weekend.
