RI'S REPRESENTATIVE WINS TWO TITLES AT MISS TOURISM INT'L CONTEST
Jakarta, Jan 7 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's representative at the recent Miss Tourism International 2008 competition in Kuala Lumpur, Albertina Fransisca Mailo (Chika), won two auxiliary titles at the event, namely Miss Photogenic and Miss Youthful.
"I am grateful that I was able to take part in this contest and win two awards though not the main one," Chika, Indonesia's Miss Tourism, said here Wednesday.
Chika was awarded the two titles right after she was chosen as one of the contest's 15 finalists from among 42 competitors from many countries.
She said though the Miss Tourism International contest was not rated equal to such beauty pageants as Miss World or Miss Universe, she had gained much new experience from the event.
Previously, Chika had taken part in two international competitions, namely World Miss University 2007 in Seoul, South Korea, and Global City Pageant 2007 in Taipei, Taiwan.
"The Miss Tourism International competition has given me more knowledge about international contests," she said.
Asked about her future plans, Chika said she wanted to finish her bachelor's degree studies at the Faculty of Psychology of the Indonesian Academy Foundation (YAI).
"I'm writing my thesis now. I intend to finish my studies first," she said.
Chika was sent to the competition in Kuala Lumpur by EL JOHN foundation as the organizing committee of the Miss Tourism Indonesia contest. She stayed in Kuala Lumpur for 20 days mostly in quarantine starting December 11, 2008. The final night of the contest itself was held on December 31, 2008, in the Grand Ballroom of Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa in Kuala Lumpur.
EL JOHN Executive Director Franny said, in the contest Chika promoted Indonesia's culture and tourism potentials by wearing Acehnese traditional clothing and performing the traditional Betawi dance called "Lenggang Nyai".
During the competition, Franny said, Chika also exchanged gifts with the contestants.
The Miss Tourism International competition in Kuala Lumpur was participated in by representatives of 42 countries, including England, Japan, Norway, Germany, Brazil, Romania, Russia, South Korea.
The winner of the Miss Tourism International 2008 title was the representative of Hongkong and the scond and third spots went to the contestants from Bosnia and Thailand respectively.
