PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO PRESENTS UPAKARTI AWARDS TO 33 RECIPIENTS

Jakarta, Jan 7 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono presented Upakarti, Technology Pioneer, and Indonesia Good Design Selection (IGDS) awards to 33 recipients at the State Palace here on Wednesday.

Upakarti (a government award for helping, guiding, promoting, and developing small-scale industries and handicrafts) was divided into five categories and were presented to 19 recipients, namely Cecep M Suherman, Supriyadi, Bukari Wiryo Satmoko, I Made Sukma Swacita, Ruslaini, Yayanti Wijaya, Alpha Febela Priyatmono, Baji, Suranip Abdul, Herman Abdullah, Hendro Martojo, Win Hendrarso, MZ Amirul Tamim, Jonathan Annes Jumame, Ferry Lee, Siswo Pranoto, Imam Ismanto Bakti, Yuliana, and Brian Sutisna.
While the Technology Pioneer awards were presented by the president to five recipients, namely Zunisan Hariadi of PT Intisar Primula, Budi Permana of PT Hariff Daya Tunggal Engineering, Adik A Soedarsono of PT Pindad, Ruddy Soesilo of PT Asian Auto International, and Dede Chandra of CV Fortuna Shoes.
In addition, President Yudhoyhono also presented Indonesia Good Design Selection awards to Sudjanto Wijaya of PT Insera Sena, Selly Sagita of Borobudur Silver, Ledie Putri Suwandie of Wonderful Batik & Bordir, Lee Kee Ju of PT LG Electronic, JB Susanto of PT Wiransindo Santakarya, Mathius Tan of PT Tiger Mandiri Pratama, Ben Wrawan Sudarmaji of CV Mahanagari Nusantara, Nikolaus Roy Noviyanto of PT Charista Printing, and Winda Kamdani Mear of PT Datasript.
Meanwhile, Industry Minister Fahmi Idris said the government has presented Upakarti awards to 979 recipients since 1985 to motivate people's participation in the development of small-and-medium scale industries.
The minister said Upakarti, Technology Pioneer, and IGDS awards were the highest appreciation from the government to those who were able to create new design and technology in the development of small-and-medium scale industries.
