Inauguration of Gulf Forum 2009 "Gulf-U.S. Relations after
The realization of the importance of linkage between the challenges
and dangers we are seeing is also directly applicable to the Gulf
region which is seeing tensions and crises that threaten its
security, stability and vital interests.
The crises and military
interferences in Iraq and Afghanistan had direct and clear effects on
undermining the traditional balance among the Gulf region's countries
for the benefit of Iran. The overloading for decades of the Israeli
nuclear program, which even doesn't pretend to produce electricity
but produces only weapons of mass destruction, represents an original
sin inciting Iran to proceed with development of its nuclear
capabilities and enabling it to cite double standards to justify its
non-compliance with international legitimacy's resolutions in this
field.
We, in the Arab Gulf countries, do respect the people of Iran and
particularly their heritage and civilized culture which has a long
history of co-existence, sharing and intermingling with the Arab
Islamic culture. Nevertheless, we have the right to emphasize the
importance of mutual respect and non-interference in internal
affairs, which are considered among the most simplest bases of good
neighborhood and improvement of relations; we have the right to
clearly express our legitimate concern and justified worry over any
developments that might lead to the proliferation of mass destruction
weapons in the Gulf region or expose its people to environmental,
security and abrupt arms race risks; we have the right to confirm our
categorical rejection of any sole hegemony or influence at the
expense of our nations, peoples and interests or any plots that might
turn countries and peoples into chess pawns within others' bargains.
Thank you for listening."
