BULOG BOOKS RP85 BILLION BUDGET SURPLUS
Jakarta, Jan 8 (ANTARA) - The state-owned logistics company, Bulog, was able to book a budget surplus of Rp85 billion in 2008 after years of suffering deficits, its president director, Mustafa Abubakar, said here on Thursday.
He said that in 2006 Bulog suffered a deficit of Rp524 billion but the deficit dropped to Rp340 billion in 2007.
"Thanks to the efficiency drive we have promised to carry out, now we are proud to announce a surplus of Rp85 billion in 2008," the Bulog chief said.
He said that Bulog's success to book a surplus was thanks to management improvement undertaken within the Bulog organization, including the efficiency drive.
Abubakar said he was optimistic that in 2009 Bulog would be able to book a bigger budget surplus.
"This is the first surplus that we have made. We hope we would have an upward trend graphics," he added.
On the occasion, Abubakar also revealed that the agency in 2008 took firm actions against its officials who violated the law and the corporate regulations.
He said that a total of 67 officials received sanctions, of whom 10 received oral reprimands, 8 persons got demotions, 20 were relieved from their posts, 16 were sacked and 12 were suspended pending legal process.
