TWO AFTERSHOCKS HIT MANOKWARI
Bengkulu, Indonesia, Jan 8 (ANTARA) - Two powerful aftershocks with a magnitude of 5.0 and 5.9 each hit Manokwari in the eastern Indonesian province of West Papua on Thursday.
The aftershocks struck at 00.08 a.m. and 06.38 a.m. respectively, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said.
The epicenter of the first aftershock was located 170 km northwest of Manokwari in a depth of 30 km and that of the second aftershock 111 km northwest of the town in a depth of 20 km, the agency said.
At least five aftershocks with a magnitude of 5.0 to 5.6 on the Richter scale hit the province on Wednesday.
The aftershocks followed Sunday's 7.6 magnitude earthquake which killed four people and injured 507 others.
