CONSTITUTIONAL COURT CHAIRMAN BELIEVES GENERAL ELECTIONS WILL RUN SMOOTHLY
Jakarta, Jan 8 (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) Mahfud MD expressed optimism that this year's general elections would run smoothly.
"Hopefully, everything will run smoothly," he said in a press conference after a coordination meeting of the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the General Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), the General Election Committee (KPU) and the Attorney General at the Constitutional Court building here on Thursday.
Mahfud MD said in the meeting it was agreed that the criminal cases received during the general elections should be settled in five days prior to the announcement of national vote tally by the KPU.
Then, the Supreme Court prepared a Supreme Court regulation (Perma) on a general elections court.
"A case during the general elections can be settled in one day," he said, adding that the Supreme Court had provided special judges in charge of handling general election-related cases.
A similar step was also taken by the Integrated Law Enforcers Center (Gakumdu) between the Attorney General, the police and the general elections supervisory body (Bawaslu), he said that the handling of a case would be conducted in a quick and correct manner.
In the meantime, Junior Attorney General for general crimes, Abdul Hakim Ritonga said his side has prepared around 927 special prosecutors to handle general election-related cases.
