SORONG JOLTED BY 5.2 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE
Bengkulu, Indonesia, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted Sorong district in West Papua at 10:26 a.m. local time on Friday.
The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said the epicenter of the tremor was located between 0.86 degrees southern latitude and 131.98 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 kilometers and 75 kilometers northwest of Sorong city.
According to BMG, another quake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale also jolted Manokwari in West Papua at 6:36 local time on Thursday morning.
The epicenter of Thursday morning's quake was located between 0.63 degrees southern latitude and 133.09 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 20 kilometers, or 111 kilometers northwest of Manokwari.
BMG reported earlier that seven earthquakes with different magnitudes rocked Indonesia and five of them occurred in Manokwari, West Papua.
It said the first temblor with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale rattled Manokwari, West Papua Province, at 02:56:26 West Indonesia Standard Time (WIB).
Its epicenter was located at 0.52 degrees Southern Lattitude and 132.97 degrees Eastern Longitude at a depth of 10 km in the sea, about 127 km southwest of Manokwari.
At about 03:12:13 (WIB), another quake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit Manokwari again. Located at 0.82 degrees Southern Latitude and 133.20 degrees Eastern Longitude, the temblor's epicenter lay 96 km Southwest of Manokwari at a depth of 20 km in the sea.
The third one struck Sorong, West Papua Province, at 05:47:33 (WIB). Measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, the quake was located 0.48 degree Southern Latitude and 132.53 degrees Eastern Longitude and its epicenter was located 143 Northeast of Sorong in a depth of 10 km in the sea.
Manokwari was again jolted by a 5.4 magnitude quake at 09:54:36 (WIB) with its epicenter located at a depth of 10 km in the sea, 0.63 Southern Latitude and 133.24 Eastern Longitude.
