TRADE MINISTER TO VISIT LIBYA, UAE
Jakarta, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu plans to visit Libya and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to explore export market of Indonesia's commodities in the two countries.
"I have plan to visit the two countries but I am still waiting for confirmation from Libyan side and presidential permit. I plan to visit Libya and Dubai early February," Mari Pangestu said at the presidential office here on Friday.
She said Libya is the potential market in the time of crisis because the funds which were liquidities by the United States in the country had been disbursed.
"The latest Indonesia Trade Expo was visited by a lot of Libyan buyers. They have at present a lot of disbursement which are directed to infrastructure development, and a number of Indonesian businessmen have a contract in infrastructure and oil/gas sectors there," Mari Pangestu said.
Besides exploring export market in Libya and the United Arab Emirates, the Indonesian trade minister would also make the same thing in other countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
Other countries where Indonesian export market has been expanded since last year were China, India and Brazil.
"Strategic and guided promotion should be made in all those countries, and therefore all related institution should be involved in our trade mission," Mari Pangestu said.
Mari Pangestu said she would also increase 11 Indonesia Trade Promotion Centers (ITPC) in 11 countries and cities such as Nigeria, Lagos, Chili, and Shanghai,
She added that she had asked all Indonesian trade attaches abroad to step up their analysis on economic activity in the countries where they were posted in relation with response to global financial crisis.
"The objectives is to anticipate heightening protectionism and to open market potential because we are facing a tight competition," she said.
