NO NEED TO SEND VOLUNTEER FIGHTERS TO PALESTINE : VP

Jakarta, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said the Indonesian people did not need to send volunteer fighters to Palestine but medical and humanitarian assistance.
"It is obvious that we do not need to send volunteer fighters to Palestine," the vice president told a press conference here on Friday.
A number of societal organizations have recruited people who are prepared to be dispatched to Palestine to fight against Israeli troops.
According to Kalla, what needed to be sent to Palestine was humanitarian and social assistance volunteers.
"So, if those who are to be sent are medical and social volunteers, please go ahead. Yet, this is also a difficult thing to do as it is not easy to enter the area," the vice president said.
After attending a Friday prayer service, Jusuf Kalla also met with a deputy chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Din Syamsuddin.
Kalla said they discussed matters relating to Palestine but he did not disclose the substance of the discussion in greater detail.
"Syamsuddin also invited me to a MUI function," the vice president said.
Syamsuddin was quoted recently as saying the country's Muslim mass organizations would not send "Jihad" (holy war) troops to face Israeli soldiers.
"Islamic mass organizations are not only concerned about and condemning the Israeli actions but we have also built Muslim solidarity by sending aid like food, clothes, medical practitioners, especially surgeons," Din Syamsuddin, who is also chairman of Muhammadiyah, one of the country's largest Islamic mass organizations, said.
The Indonesian Mujahedeen Council (MMI) has opened an opportunity for Muslims interested in fighting Israeli forces as martyrs, and sent to Palestine.
The MMI opened an opportunity in the recruitment of martyrs and for fund raising to help Palestinian people who became victims of Israeli brutal attacks, Abu Hanifah, an MMI branch secretary, said.
The Israeli military aggression has killed more than 780 Palestinians since it launched the brutal attacks on December 27, 2008. ***1***
