ISRAELI COLONIALISM IN PALESTINE 'HOLOCAUST' : MPR CHAIRMAN
Jakarta, Jan. 9 (ANTARA) - The Israeli occupation of Palestine is neocolonialism which has created a "holocaust" for the Palestinian people, Hidayat Nur Wahid, chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), said.
What is happening in Palestine currently is neocolonialism practiced by Israel, Wahid said at Al-Azhar Mosque here on Friday.
Recently, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez had also described the Israeli military aggression in Gaza as a holocaust, according Wahid.
"A holocaust, that is what is happening right now in Gaza. The president of Israel at this moment should be taken to the International Criminal Court together with the president of
the United States," he said. Israel's ambassador to Venezuela had been expelled amid claims his country was cmmitting genocide.
Hidayat Nur Wahid also said a number of media reporting the Palestinians' sufferings due to the Zionist country's invasion often experienced pressure from some Western countries.
He said when visiting Qatar recently , he was told that Al Jazeera often received pressure in the form of protests from a number of parties claiming to represent tens of Western countries.
The MPR chairman called on the Indonesian press to continue reporting on the impact of the Israeli military aggression accurately and based on facts, despite the Israeli government's complaints that the Indonesian media's reports were very much pro-Palestine and biased.
In November 2007, the chairman of the Palestinian Ulema (Islamic Scholars) Association, Nawwaf Takruri, said at Alzhar Grand Mosque in Jakarta that the Palestinian struggle for independence was not only a cause of the Palestinians or the Arab people, but of Muslims all over the world.
The Israeli military aggression in the Gaza Strip has killed more than 780 Palestinians, including women and children, and injured over 3,000 others, since December 27. 2008.***5***
