SURVEY: YUDHOYONO LEADS PRESIDENTIAL POLLS

Jakarta, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - Head of the Social and Economic Research, Education and Information Institute of Social and Economic Affairs (LP3ES) Fajar Nursahid, stated here Friday that Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was still leading the presidential election polls.

"Yudhoyono only lost in Eastern Indonesia to Megawati Soekarnoputri," the chairman added.
Conducted from December 1 to 10, 2008, the survey had collected 2.490 respondents from 125 villages across Indonesia.
According to the survey result, Fajar said, Yudhoyono was successful in certain sectors such as health (59,5 percent), education (56,3 percent) and corruption eradication (36 percent).
Moreover, Fajar said, the respondents considered Yudhoyono to have failed in dealing with fuel prices and basic food supplies (51 percent), while 45,7 percent of the respondents said Yudhoyono failed to anticipate national fuel shortages.
