AGO FIRES PROSECUTOR OVER GAMBLING CASE

Jakarta, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - The Attorney General's Office has dismissed prosecutor Sudomo for accepting a police file which is considered fictitious as it is not accompanied by evidence and the names of suspects.

"Prosecutor Sudomo has committed a serious disciplinary violation so that he has been dismissed as a prosecutor. His official dismissal is effective as of January 7, 2009," deputy attorney general for supervision, Darmono, said here on Friday.
As it has been known the Attorney General's Office has examined Sudomo for suspicion of having released bankers of gambling at Hotel Sultan in Jakarta, namely Dony Harianto Ngo, Suparlan Liosman and Hengky Simbolon through a fictitious police file.
Darmono said Sudomo's dismissal was recommended by the deputy attorney general for supervision and had received approval of Attorney General Hendarman Supandji.
"Prosecutor Sudomo has violated Article 6 Paragraph 4 B of Government Regulation Number 30 of 1980 on the discipline of public servants," he said.
He said Sudomo had been foolish and careless by receiving and signing the receipt for the fictitious file.
Darmono denied that Sudomo had recieved Rp500 million in bribe from the bankers. "We did not find the case," he said.
He said Sudomo just received a file the receipt of which he then signed without submission of suspects and evidence from the police.
"This is a joint shame and therefore the police have to re-discover the suspects and materials of evidence," he said.
Several newspapers have reported the gambling bankers at Hotel Sultan were suspected to have given Rp700 million in bribe for their release and Rp500 million of it went to prosecutor Sudomo.
The fictitious file was submitted by the police to the prosecutor at the parking lot of the high prosecutor's office.
