Jakarta, Jan 9 (ANTARA) - Indonesia is ready to send its navy ship KRI Diponegoro to join the maritime task force of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Navy Headquarers' chief spokesman Rear Admiral Iskandar Sitompul said here on Friday the Sigma Class corvette and its crew had all undegone intensive checking and examination regarding its readiness by teams from the Navy Headquarters and the National Defense Forces (TNI) Headquarters.
Iskandar said the crew had also been through a pre-assignment period which was part of the process they had to take with regard to various tasks they might have to do as part of the UN peacekeeping force.

Iskandar said the UN would send a team to check the readiness of the KRI Diponegoro and its crew by the end of this month. If they were considered meeting the UN standards the ship with its 111 crew members would depart to Lebanon in the middle of February and arrive in Lebanon in March.
"We have prepared everyhting so that the ship as well as its crew are ready to carry out the UN mission in Lebanon," he said.
KRI Diponegoro later will join contingents from Italy, Spain and France under the leadership of an officer from Italy.
