HRH Premier to patronize major health conference

Manama, Mar. 9 (BNA): Under the patronage of HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Kingdom of Bahrain on Thursday, March 10, will host the Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS)'s Health Exhibition/Conference. Organised by Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS) and the Gulf Diabetes Research Studies Group (GDRS) to curb the onset or spread of this chronic illness contracted by children as well adult men and women, the three-day conference coincides with the society's quarter-centenary. The Chairman of Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS), Lt-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa said specialized health/medical conferences/forums are aimed to enrich the medical and health fields to the benefit of the largest number of health-providing workers in a bid to make Bahrain the hub of medical and health conferences. Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah added the society has finalized all the necessary preparations to host this conference which will begin its activities tomorrow attended by 500 experts, specialists and participants from inside Bahrain and from abroad who will discuss more than 30 papers compiled by Bahraini, GCC and international experts. The society's deputy chairperson, Dr. Mariam Al Hajeri, said the conference will include presentation of lectures and workshops for health workers in Arabic language and diabetic patients and their parents to increase public awareness about the disease, its management, treatment and to shed light on latest developments in the treatment of this illness. Also several pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and health centres will participate. The conference focuses on three themes mainly the prevention, complications and breakthroughs in the treatment and medication of diabetes mellitus (DM type I and II) and future prospects for treatment of diabetes.
