Bahrain supports Egypt’s candidate for the post of Arab League Secretary-General

Manama, Mar 9 (BNA): The Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa has announced the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain for Ahmed Aboul-Gheit as the candidate of the brotherly Arab Republic of Egypt who will take over Dr. Nabil Elaraby as Secretary General of the Arab League. The Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that this support was conveyed in an official letter sent by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, President of the brotherly Arab Republic of Egypt. He said the letter affirmed Bahrain’s full support for the candidate and readiness to cooperate with the new Secretary-General of the Arab League to succeed his mission in promoting pan- Arab action, strengthening its institutions and mechanisms, supporting Arab interests and confronting the challenges and various threats facing the Arab countries and peoples. He lauded the brilliant history of Ahmed Aboul-Gheit as a senior diplomat and praised his record of giving and contributions at regional and international levels as well as the valued role he has played in cementing relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab Republic of Egypt in all fields. A the meantime, the Minister appreciated the remarkable efforts exerted by Dr. Nabil Elaraby, the current Secretary General of the League, and praised the firm keenness and tireless efforts he has exerted throughout his tenure to promote peace and security, underpin regional stability and develop Arab the League performance so as to be able to deal with all the developments and occurrences.
