MEGAWATI LEADS COMMEMORATION OF PDIP'S ANNIVERSARY
Jakarta, Jan 10 (ANTARA) - Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri led a function to mark the party's 36th anniversary at the Bumi Wiyata Indoor Tennis Stadium in Depok, south of here, on Saturday.
The event which was also intended to celebrate Christmas was attended by thousands of party cadres and executives as well as several Christian figures.
On the occasion, Megawati also presented aid to a number of foundations and orphanages to show the party's care for the needy.
The former president said the momentum of the party's anniversary could be used as a yardstick of the party's chances to win the legislative elections next April.
She said she hoped the party win the polls by a significant margin. "I hope PDIP will win the legislative elections because the victory will also pave the way for success in the presidential election that follows later," she said.
Megawati has already expressed her intention to run for the presidency.
