SCW secretary-general participates in CSW60

York, Mar.19 (BNA): Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Dr. Hala Al Ansari met the Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Arab States United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Dr. Sima Bahous, on the sidelines of the sixtieth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW60 2016), held here.
They reviewed areas of cooperation between the SCW and UNDP regarding women empowerment on all levels and ways to activate cooperation in the SCW’s main areas of interest, like integrating the needs of Bahraini women in the developmental work.
Al Ansari expressed hope that joint cooperation and exchange of expertise will be promoted.
The SCW Secretary-General met Secretary-General of the Malaysian Ministry of Women Family and Community Development Sabariah Hassan.
Hassan lauded the achievements of the Bahraini women thanks to the support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), adding that this meeting is an opportunity to promote joint cooperation in the areas of integrating women needs and equal opportunities through exchange of bilateral expertise and visits.
Al Ansari also met Assistant Secretary-General for Policy and Programme of UN-Women Yannick Glemarec in the presence of the Regional Director of UN WOMEN Arab States Mohammad Naciri.
She lauded the UNWOMEN’s exerted efforts at empowering and enabling women through specialised programmes in the Arab countries, given its experience in regards to gender equality.
The meeting discussed a number of initiatives and efforts to develop the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts at the level of equal opportunities and benefit from the expertise of UNWOMEN in integration of women needs in the development programmes.
On the level of Arab cooperation, Al Ansari discussed areas of joint cooperation with the Director of Women, Family and Children's Department of the General-Secretariat at the League of Arab States Ambassador Enas Makkawim.
They reviewed exchange of expertise at preparing programmes and projects of Arab joint work in the field of women, family and childhood, and follow up with the implementation of resolutions and recommendations related to the affairs of women, family and childhood.
Al Ansari said that this meeting is an opportunity to build bridges of communication to promote joint Arab action in the areas of support and empowerment of women.
Al Ansari headed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s participating delegation in CSW60 2016, which is taking place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 14 to 24 March 2016.
