NIHR participates in ICC bureau meeting

Geneva, Mar.22 (BNA): The Bahrain National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR)'s delegation, headed by its Vice Chairman Abdulla Al Derazi, and comprising Jameela Salman, Maria Khoury, Dr. Bader Adel, Dr. Hameed Hussain, Dr. Muna Hijris and Director of Information and Communication Technology at NIHR's Secretariat General Fahad Al Mualla participated in International Coordinating Committee (ICC)of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) Bureau Meeting at Palais de Nations in Geneva, before the 29th session of the ICC General Meeting.
The bureau discussed the regional challenges, as well as their impact and how to avoid them. It also shed light on proposed amendments pertaining to ICC statute, ICC Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) in charge of strategic plan and the National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Unit (NIRMS) as well as reviewing Roundtable report on accreditation, which was held last year.
It addressed European Union (EU) funding report, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and ICC funding, as well as the work of ICC office Geneva. NIHR participated in the Asia Pacific Forum of NHRIs (APF) as an observer.
Al Derazi affirmed that the participation of UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)'s members in this gathering, is an addition to NIHR, adding that their presence promote and create channels of communication among the four primary regions: Africa, the Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe, especially that NIHR applied for accreditation granted by SCA, which will be reviewed during the committee's meeting on May 9-13.
