MANOKWARI JOLTED AGAIN BY 5.3 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE MONDAY
Jakarta, Jan 12 (ANTARA) - An aftershock measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale rocked again Manokwari district in West Papua Province in the early morning of Monday, meteorology and geophysics agency (BMG) has reported.
The epicenter of the quake which shook the area at 1:13 a.m. local time was located between 0.88 degrees southern latitude and 132.71 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 km below sea level.
BMG said there was no immediate report of casualty or damages brought about by the earthquake, located 151 kilometers southwest of Manokwari, 156 kilometers southeast of Sorong, and 331 kilometers northwest of Kaimana.
Last Thursday at 6:38 a.m. local time, a strong tectonic earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted Manokwari.
Its epicenter was located at between 0.63 degrees southern latitude and 133.09 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 20 kilometers, or 111 kilometers northwest of Manokwari.
BMG reported that during the day on Thursday seven earthquakes with different magnitudes rocked Indonesia and five of them occurred in Manokwari, West Papua.
It said the first with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale shocked Manokwari, West Papua Province, at 02:56:26 West Indonesia Standard Time (WIB).
The temblor's epicenter was located 0.52 degree Southern Lattitude and 132.97 degree Eastern Longitude at a depth of 10 km in the sea, about 127 km southwest of Manokwari.
At about 03:12:13 (WIB), another quake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit Manokwari again. Located 0.82 degree Southern Latitude and 133.20 degrees Eastern Longitude, the temblor's epicenter lies 96 km Southwest of Manokwari at a depth of 20 km in the sea.
The third one struck Sorong, West Papua Province, at 05:47:33 (WIB). Measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, the quake was located 0.48 degree Southern Latitude and 132.53 degrees Eastern Longitude and its epicenter was located 143 Northeast of Sorong in a depth of 10 km in the sea.
Manokwari was again jolted by a 5.4 magnitude quake at 09:54:36 (WIB) with its epicenter located at a depth of 10 km in the sea, 0.63 Southern Latitude and 133.24 Eastern Longitude.
