PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO RECEIVES SYRIAN PM
Jakarta, Jan 12 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received visiting Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Naji Otri at the State Palace here on Monday.
Due to heavy rain, welcoming ceremony that was initially to be held outdoors on the palace compound was moved to the palace's upper veranda.
After the playing of the national anthems of the two countries and a 21-gun salute, President Yudhoyono took a view minutes of his time to introduce a number of United Indonesia Cabinet ministers to the Syrian prime minister.
The ministers introduced to Otri were among others Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie, acting Coordinating Minister for Economy concurrently Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister for Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Surya Dharma Ali, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, and Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono.
After the welcoming ceremony, President Yudhoyono and Prime Minister Otri and delegations from the two countries held a bilateral meeting to discuss political and economic cooperation, and other international issues.
Trade between Indonesia and Syria from 2003 to 2008 showed a significant increase.
The value of trade between the two countries in 2003 was recorded at US$47.08 million, and it continued to rise to US$55.08 million in 2004, US$60.48 million in 2005, US$62.40 million in 2006, US$79.97 million in 2007, and to US$76.14 milion up to September 2008.
