BRCS conducts volunteers training

Manama, Apr. 4 (BNA): Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) has organized a " psycho-social support" training course attended by 26 volunteers. The three-day programme included coaching on the basics of psychiatric support for crisis, catastrophe afflicted people, boosting the volunteers efficiency and brushing up their skills in this aspect. The programme discussed various topics, primarily psycho-social support, psychological tension, adaptation, loss and grief, psycho-social first aid, supportive communication, practical training workshops and drills. Head of Health Awareness Committee in BRCS, Maysar Al Sabri, asserted the importance of first aid specialists perfection of basics of psycho-social support and the provision of support to survivors who may be in a state of chaos, panic, exhaustion, worry and may even experience bouts of fear as a result of the sheer mishap. Al Sabri stressed the importance of training local community volunteers psychological to provide psycho-social support in view of its in alleviating pain especially for children and the elderly and could save human lives. It is known that big fear or pain causes the heart to beat faster and faster (palpitations) and sometimes increases blood pressure (hypertension) which aggravates the existing health complications of those afflicted. Fear and shock (trauma) might lead to further complications, disability or inability to function. BRCS has included psychological, social support in the activities of committees in coordination and cooperation between the society and the relevant bodies in the kingdom, she concluded.
