RUPIAH FALLS 180 POINTS LATE MONDAY

Jakarta, Jan 12 (ANTARA) - The rupiah fell 180 points to Rp11,080/Rp11,120 per dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market late Monday from Rp10,900/11,000 at the weekend as investors actively bought the US greenback.
"But the rush for the US dollar faded after investors knew that the US dollar weakened against euro and yen in the global market," retail banking director of PT Bank Mega Tbk, Kostaman Thayib said on Monday.
The local unit traded at Rp11,100/Rp11,140 per dollar in the morning trading, down 200 points from Rp10,900/Rp11,040 at the weekend.
The rush for the dollar faded after the greenback weakened against the Japanese yen and euro on the US worsening unemployment rate, he said.
The US dollar's exchange rate against the Japanese yen fell to 90.12 from 90.29 and against euro to 1.3422 from 1.3453 previously.
The dollar would likely weaken against the yen because of the US worsening economy, Kostaman said.
