Regional workshop on counterterrorism held

Manama, Apr 11 (BNA): Chief of Public Security, Major-General Tariq Al Hassan, gave opening remarks at a regional workshop held today on counterterrorism efforts, especially the activities of Hezbollah.
The Chief stated that the two-day workshop (held at the Public Security Officers' Club) coincides with the Cabinet's approval of the designation of 68 terrorism organisations, of which Lebanese Hezbollah tops the list.
He said that the workshop is a result of the recommendations from the joint work group of GCC countries and the United States during the meeting that was held in August in Saudi Arabia.
He stated that the Interior Ministry will continue to work with regional and international partners to fight terrorism and will take legal action against proven terror organisations as well as individuals who are proven to be supporting or participating in terror activities. He also stated that anyone who possesses images, slogans or symbols or fundraises for any of the designated organisations will also be dealt with through the law.
The counterterrorism workshop focuses on the threats from Hezbollah in the region as well as Hezbollah's criminal activities. The development of US-Gulf law enforcement cooperationin the fight against these activities is also a focus.
Representatives from Bahrain and the other GCC countries along with representatives from the US take part in the workshop.
