PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO ATTENDS LVRI`s 52nd ANNIVERSARY

Jakartra, Jan 13 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono attended a function to observe the 52nd anniversary of the Indonesian Veterans' Legion (LVRI) at the State Palace here on Tuesday.

On the occasion the president was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono and Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono.

In his address, the President appreciated the anniversary's theme, "LVRI and Government to Realize a Peaceful and Prosperous Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)."
The president said discussions on NKRI, Pancasila, and the 1945 Constitution would remain relevant.

After attending the LVRI event, the President was scheduled to chair a plenary cabinet session at his office.

Meanwhile, LVRI chairman Rais Abin in his address expressed gratitude to the government for channeling honorary funds to the country's veterans.

Rais Abin said LVRI's executive board had undergone a regeneration so that the organization would remain ready to support the government.

Speaking to an audience of at least 200 veterans, Rais Abin said the retired soldiers were optimistic that Indonesia would continue to enjoy lasting peace.

He concluded his address by commenting on amendments to the 1945 Constitution and condemning Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
