ALGERIA OFFERING INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS TO RI CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES

Jakarta, Jan 13 (ANTARA) - Algerian Public Works Minister Amar Ghoul has offered a number of infrastructure projects to Indonesian construction companies.

"I promise to facilitate Indonesian contractors who are prepared to operate in Algeria," Amar Ghoul said after a meeting with his Indonesian counterpart, Djoko Kirmanto, here on Tuesday.

Present at the meeting were representatives of Indonesian construction companies such as PT Wujaya Karya, PT Waskita Karya, PT Pembangunan Perumahan, PT Hutama Karya, PT Adhi Karya, and the Indonesian Contractors Association.

Amar Ghoul said several Indonesian construction companies that had worked in Algeria had shown good performance and therefore the Algerian government wanted to give Indonesian construction companies opportunities to take part in infrastructure development in Algeria until 2025.

Meanwhile, Djoko Kirmanto said there were a lot of projects including consultancy, construction, and operation in Algeria for Indonesian construction companies to work on.

"Algeria is to implement massive infrastructure projects and has asked Indonesian construction companies to take part. It is a big opportunity for our construction companies to compete in Algeria," Djoko Kirmanto said.

PT Wijaya Karya President Director Bintang Perbowo said his company would start to construct two bridges at a cost of Rp400 billion in Algeria this year.

"The two bridges are Algerian government projects," Bintang said after accompanying Amar Ghoul at a meeting with State Enterprises Minister Sofyan Djalil at the Garuda building on Tuesday.

He said Algeria had actually offered the construction of five bridges with a total value of Rp1 trillion to Indonesian construction companies this year.

"But we need to be realistic and work on two bridges only," Bintang said.
