Second Guide for Parliamentarians launched

Manama, May 3 (BNA): The launch of the Second Guide for Parliamentarians was celebrated today at the National Assembly by the Council of Representatives, the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The guide, prepared by Ms. Dalal Al-Zayed, who is a member of both the Supreme Council for Women and Shura Council, emphasizes the important role played by elected members and their role in supporting and achieving development. Mr. Amin El Sharkawi, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Bahrain, highlighted the many initiatives between the UND, the Parliament and the SCW. He stressed the importance of the UN as a cornerstone of global cooperation. In his statement, Mr. El Sharkawi highlighted the commitment made by parliaments globally to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 sustainable goals and 169 Targets which emerged last year. He stressed the readiness of the UN to support the parliament in its role to monitor the SDGs in Bahrain. His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Ali Almulla noted that the guide reflected the importance of the culture of Parliament, and thanked all parties involved for their effort. The guide is the latest in a series of projects between the UNDP and Parliament. (UNDP)
