For the first time in the history of the Republic, the government removes subsidy allocation for premium gasoline from the State Budget. By doing so, the fuel subsidies amounting Rp57.6 trillion allocated in the 2009 State Budget will only be for diesel oil and kerosene.

Ten Israeli soldiers preferred to be in jail for 14 days rather than joining the war in Gaza. This is the first desertion case which has occurred since Israel's military aggression in Gaza, on December 27, 2008.
