AKARTA STOCKS GAIN IN TECHNICAL REBOUND

Jakarta, Jan. 14 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) closed 5.891 points higher in the bourse's morning session on Wednesday.

The IHSG closed at 1,405.624, up 5.891 points or 0.42 percent and the LQ45 index strengthened 1.530 points or 0.56 percent to 278.484.

Bayu Aji, a research analysts of PT Panin Capital, said here on Wednesday that the BEI index rebound after it had been in oversold condition following the slumping down of the Jakarta stocks since January 9, 2009.

He said that the BEI index had tumbled over the last few days due to a factor of regional bourses which had also lost.

After shares in regional bourses advanced on early Wednesday, the BEI index also added, he said.

However, the Jakarta Stock movements were still dominated by 62 shares that lost, only 34 which gained, and 45 shares that remained static.

The share transactions slightly increased with 35,804 transactions, involving 2.189 billion shares, with a total value of Rp1.235 trillion.

Among shares which gained in the BEI were Indosat shares that were up Rp50 to Rp5,700, Astra International shares which advanced Rp200 to Rp12,950, PGAS (State Gas Company) shares which went up Rp25 to Rp2,050, state Telecommunication company (PT Telkom) that surged Rp200 to Rp6,950, and Astra Agro Lestari which rose Rp400 to Rp11,450.
