Information Minister congratulates press award laureate

Manama, May 18 (BNA): Information Affairs Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi hailed Bahrain’s distinction as a model in guaranteeing press and media freedom as well as intellectual and cultural creativity. He praised the kingdom’s glorious history, democratic climate and comprehensive development in the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The minister was speaking as he received journalist and specialised academic researcher in international relations and Asian affairs Dr. Abdullah Al Madani who was granted The Arab Press Award in the political article category. The award was given to Dr. Al Madani during the 15th session of the Arab Media Forum which convened recently in Dubai in the presence and under the patronage of the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The minister described the honour as a tribute for Dr. Al Madani’s academic, literary, intellectual and cultural contributions as well as his outstanding efforts in the press and media field. He said the award reflects the value and role of the national competencies in raising intellectual awareness and enriching the media and cultural movement. He added that all doors are open for the intellectuals and media staff to work creatively according to the national constitution and laws which guarantee the right to express opinions freely and independently while adhering to the ethics of the profession. He urged to maintain the kingdom’s Arab identity, preserve social unity and cohesion and promote values of tolerance and coexistence. Dr. Al Madani thanked the minister for the motivation to continue serving the nation and enriching the media and intellectual momentum in Bahrain.
