NIHR deputy chairman holds meetings in France

Paris, May 20 (BNA): Deputy Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Abdulla Al-Derazi held here a meeting with the Director of the Middle East Department at the French Foreign Ministry Didier Chabert. Al-Derazi, who is on a visit to France in coordination with the French Embassy to Bahrain to enhance bilateral cooperation in the human rights field, gave a briefing on the NIHR’s work strategy, goals and its responsibilities which are consistent with the Paris Principles. He also highlighted NIHR’s role in promoting the human rights culture through sessions, forums and workshops. Didier Chabert lauded the Bahraini-French relations and the exiting cooperation between the two countries in all fields, including human rights. He also praised the important role played by the NIHR in promoting the human rights culture at the local and international levels, stressing the importance of consolidating bilateral cooperation through exchanging expertise and providing consultations that support the NIHR’s work. The visit also included a meeting with the French Senate and Chairman of its European Affairs Committee Senator Jean Bizet, as well as the secretary-general of the detention centres departments, who informed him about the department’s role in inspecting French prisons.
