Grab Bike, Uber Moto can provide food delivery services
BANGKOK, May 22 (TNA) -- Grab Bike and Uber Moto, ordered to stop motorcycle taxi services in the Thai capital since May 17, can continue offering food and parcel delivery services because they are not against the law, said Nunthapong Cherdchu, deputy director-general of Land Transport Department.
Land Transport Department earlier ruled that their services were illegal.
Uber Moto has reportedly also provide food and parcel delivery services after the notice to stop motorcycle taxi service was given while its competitor Grab Bike voiced concerns that Uber Moto would grab its drivers to join the company after stopping serving passengers.
Mr Nunthapong said if Grab Bike wanted to providing food and parcel delivery services, it can do so because they are not illegal.
The department officials would monitor closely whether the two firms adhere to the order and if not, severe measures including the closure of application would be carried out, he said.
Their services on providing motorcycle taxi were suspended following complaints by registered motorcycle taxis in Bangkok.
A total of 66 drivers from the two firms were fined so far.
Drivers of legal, registered motorcycle taxi must have public transportation driving licence and wear orange colour vest which identified they are motorcycle taxies. Violators will face a maximum fine of 4,000 baht. (TNA)
