UI WILL SEND LECTURERS TO RUSSIA TO CONTINUE STUDYING

London, Jan 15 (ANTARA)- Jakarta-based University of Indonesia (UI) will immediately send a number of its lecturers to Russia to continue studying in the country on the cooperation basis of the two countries' universities.

M. Aji Surya, head of information affairs of Indonesian embassy in Moskow told Antara here on Thursday that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the cooperation between UI and the Russia Polytechnic University of St. Petersburg was signed on Wednesday.

The MoU which was signed by UI's rector Prof. Dr. Gumilar R. Soemantri and St. Petersburg's vice rector Prof. Dr. Dmitry Arsnyev would cover an exchange program of lecturers, students, research and publications.

UI's rector on the occasion underlined the importance of diversification of learning goal of the Indonesian academicians, which did not only have the western orientation but also trying to explore that of other countries with their high tradition of sciences.

"We have young good quality lecturers to take master and doctorate degrees in one of best universities in Russia. On the other hand they can also study in UI," Gumilar said.

Academic activities could enhance relations between the two nations as well as lead to a sustainable civilization and a breakthrough to improve sciences, he said.

The UI rector also hailed the Indonesian embassy's assistance in facilitating the cooperation between the two universities which has been long delayed.
